Today is Timothy’s big one.  I know what you’re all thinking….”da hell is she doing with that old dood?”  We have lots of plans for him today, so as you’re reading this, I’m off to gather up both his kids and a couple other scragglers and head to Memphis for lots of birthday surprises and goodies.  I’m quite sure Tim isn’t checking The Dip this morning, so leave your birthday wishes for my favorite dood and I’ll make him read them tonight.

Happy Happy Birthday, Sweetie!!!!  Love you love you love you.

When We Came to Tougaloo

This is what we said we’d do:
Work real hard and make good grades, then we’ll pledge the DELTA way.

Fifteen years ago, we stayed up all night for about a month. We practiced in the cold weather for hours on end. We squeezed lemons, we cried till we laughed, and we laughed till we cried. Most of all, we formed an indelible bond. Unbreakable. Fifteen years ago, we crossed those sands into Delta.

Have I ever told ya’ll about my line sisters?

There’s Rochelle: Hellacious II is what we called her — and the name was so fitting. Back in the day she was full of fire and ready to burn. She’s now the mother of 3 and a Principal.  Still full of fire, still ready to burn.

There’s Gwen: Speechless was her name. That was truly an oxymoron. That girl could talk for hours on end, and she still can. And she still does.  But, she gives the most amazing advice, full of love and truth, that Gwen is. She’s now the mother of 3 and a lawyer.

Toshia: Silliness and sleep would be the two words that best define her. We could always count on her for an unexpected laugh — and to be in bed by 9. I never get on an elevator without thinking of her (inside joke) She is now Dr. Stamps.

Teshia (& Chris): Two Deltas in one. Man, Teshia had jokes. She was just….Teshia. Telling it like it is. Her Daddy made us the best chili ever, and her family became our family. This chic here is now a wife and mother of two and still has that same amazing spirit.

DeeDee: My Buddy. When we were in school, she was technically the mother to her niece. Today, that niece is in college. DeeDee has held her family down like most people never could, even if they had to.

Toni (Flame’s the name): Toni almost set herself on fire one day. She was always our voice of reason, she kept us from all some kinds of damnfoolery, trickery and deceit.  She’s now the mother of 5 (wow!) and is a lawyer.  Or maybe she went to med school, too, and forgot to tell us. :-)

Tiffany:  Tiffany was the one that was always down for whatever, but she never would say it.  She’d be all shy and stuff, but the next thing you knew she was right along with you hiding from campus security in the midnight hour.  She’s  a big time accountant now.

CheChe:  Hot and Spicy, Cayenne Pepper!!  This chic here, man.  Our dancer, cheerleader, happy go lucky Che.  Salt of the earth, man.  But not to be messed with, or you’d see that New Orleans flava in a hot minute, baaaby.  She now has 3 kids, and is a guidance counselor.

Hope:  Mannnn, Hope was just indescrible in one word.  She was all over the place and we were all over the place having her back.  Today, she’s a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy.

Kidada:  Our darling Nikki.  Fashionable, smart, silly, hilarious.  Kidada always wanted to change the world somehow, but in college she mostly just changed her hair :-) .  Today, she is an education specialist in Atlanta, a make up artist, and she’s still not done. I’m waiting on her to take over the world.

That’s them.  My hearts.  There were 22 of us, so surely there were others:  Rashun who left us for Xavier, Mel and Yonka who were much too busy to hang with us losers ;-p, Seletta who had about 8 jobs…the list goes on.  But these 10 right here?  From the very day we crossed 15 years ago, I can call them for anything at anytime, no matter where I am in this world and they will be.there.  I would do the same for them without even thinking about it.  Those chics are one of the great loves of my life.

So…we’re all old school now.  Fifteen years makes you officially an old head.  But when we look at how far we’ve come from college girls to successful women, I’m not amazed.  After all, we’re Deltas.

HAPPY FIFTEEN FALL ‘93!

I LOVE YOU!!!

Shout Out! My brother!!!

Today is my brother’s birthday!  I tried to find a picture of him, but all I had was one of the back of his head at Christmas.  So, anyway, sorry Shad.  I never talk about my brother on the blog, huh? That’s cause he lives in the ATL and I don’t have any funny stories to share about him.  So, in honor of my bro, I’ll tell you 5 things about him on his birthday.

1.  He is smarter than me.  What?!  You say?  How can that be?  Yep, the kid is a sheer genius, folks.

2.  When he was younger, my mom used to make him go to our Girl Scout meetings.  He hated it!  But I was secretly jealous that he always did the crafts better than me.  Loser.

3.  He is the papa of one youngun, my one and only nephew Drewbaby.  Aidan thinks Drewbaby and his Uncle Shad are the shiznit.

4.  When I went to college, I missed him the most.  (Insert…awwwww).  Which is odd, because, well, it’s just odd.  I mean, he was always around teasing me or ignoring me or making crab legs with me. Then, suddenly, he wasn’t.  Booo him.

5.  He is a rocket scientist (see #1).  Of course, it would take a rocket scientist to outshine ME.  And I am very very proud of his many accomplishments.

6.  For some reason, my line sisters think he is da.bomb.

One more.  I know I said 5, I know:

7.  Once at my Grandmas house, he got sick.  Instead of giving him medicine, my aunt and uncle started praying for him.  I wanted to kill them in their sleep.  How they not gone give my brother some medicine.  They better be glad he was alright.

I love my little brother.  He’s not so little anymore, though.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE SHAD!!!!!

Ya’ll better tell my brother happy birthday.  Get ya comment on.

Representative Adrienne Hooper Wooten started her first day at work at the Mississippi Legislature today repping House District 71. My very public apologies that I wasn’t able to help you get there, but I, for one, am sooo proud of you! Now, go hold it down for Mississippi!
