He marched with Martin Luther King. He stood and fought for freedom, and this was his moment, too. But he’s old. And you know that when you ask old people to do something, they do it exactly how they want to do it.
In typical old man fashion, he said what the heck he wanted to say, and you can’t even be mad. When yellow can be mellow, and red can get ahead. Brown can stick around, and black ain’t got to get back. Then he took us back with the triple Amen.
And that, my friends, is how you set off the benediction.

Do you or don’t you?
Will you or won’t you?
Maybe?
Maybe not?
What are we supposed to believe?

You know I try to leave you with a delightful Friday post, but this Republican Party Press Release has gone and upset me. How high school is this? Sheesh. And, the sad thing is, this is the BEST they got? A pathetic passive aggressive attempt to get at Michelle OBama? So, a whole general election is going to center around attacks on 1) a candidates wife, 2) a candidates former pastor. This should be easy, then, if you got nothing on the actual candidate.
November can not come soon enough.

If you have something to say and you can be even remotely related to Barack Obama, then will you kindly SHUT.YO.AZZ.UP? Oprah, this means you. Wright, this means….well, never mind. So, note to: Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Andrew Young, Myrlie Evers, Julian Bond, Kweisi Mfume, Colin Powell, anyone who has ever been a Black Panther, if you’ve ever visited the MLK site in Memphis or DC, if you participated in the Civil Rights Movement, hell, if you’ve ever stood up in front of a crowd. Somehow, people think that we’re all connected and that you speak for us, the regla Black folk. And then somehow that means that you speak for Barack Obama. Just wait. Don’t say it, don’t write it, don’t send an email about it, don’t send a pigeon with a message on it. Wait on the nomination, then do your thang. But for now, SHUT.YO.AZZ.UP.

I voted! And, I’ve gotten about 1800 text messages reminding me to vote, so I have a sneaking suspicion that today is gonna be big! I was the ONLY person in line for the Democratic primary in my precinct, so me and Aidan were ready in case anything jumped off with the many, many Republicans who were there to vote for, errr, something.
Anyway, this is deep ya’ll. I get up to the booth and the guy turns it on for me and I got a little emotional. I know, I was surprised, too, cause I was standing there thinking “What the hell? I ain’t no punk!” So, I pressed the little button and stood there and looked at my checkmark for about 2 minutes, I even whipped out my cell phone and took a picture of it. I looked over at Aidan and back at the ballot, and I wondered what the future has in store for my son. I am proud to know that because of this day, his options are unlimited.

Is that weird? Seriously, ya’ll, I’m anxious. This is the first time that I’ve actually been looking forward to voting. There is so much at stake this time and this is such history that my stomach is in knots. I’m ready to get in there and do it and tomorrow night I’ll probably be glued to the TV like my life depends on it. Well…our lives really do depend on it.

As you all know, I cannot comment on politics or express my political views. So, this is purely an emotional post. This almost made me cry. If you live in this Great State of Mississippi, March 11, 2008 is YOUR day. Go to the polls, make it happen. YES.YOU.CAN.
