The Voting Booth Bitch Slap
October 30, 2008, 10:19 am

bitch slap:  To open handedley slap someone. Denote disrespect for the person being bitch slapped as they are not worthy of a man sized punch. The bitch slap is often preceded with ample forewarning.  The term suggests that the slap was met with little resistance and much whining.

McCain has been forewarned.  He’s aware of his fate.  In truth, he already knows that he can’t resist much and he’s already started whining about how things went wrong.  Obama has already set it up for us.  He told ’em one last time, now he’s walking away.  I think I saw him look back and say “P — ya’ll got this?”  Yeah, Slim, we got you.

I, for one, have been just itching for Obama to go slap the hell off on John McCain.  Then I want Michelle to call up Cindy and show her how they do it on the Southside.  Then I want Hillary to meet Sarah Palin in an alley and get them knuckles dirty.  But, alas, none of these things have happened.  Yet.  The day of the bitch slap is coming, and Obama is letting us do the honors.

We’re bitch slapping McCain from the voting booth.  Tuesday, November 4th.  It’s goin down all day from 7 to 7, and everybody can get some of the action.  You down?

6:30

I hate 6:30 a.m.  It’s the bain of my existence.  Not 5:45 when the alarm goes off, or 6, or 6:15 after I’ve hit snooze three times…but 6:30.  When I know that I must awaken.  When CoCo starts breakdancing to get outside.  When the TV automatically pops on and I hear Serita Erves ole bad weave lookin’ self telling me who got got in Jackson last night.

At 6:30 a.m. this morning, I decided “To hell with you 6:30!  You’re not gonna get me up this morning!  I’m not gonna let you ruin my day!”  And I turned over without regard.  The next voice I heard was Robin Roberts…awww, damn!  It’s 7:15!!!

Wake up, Aidan!  You have to eat breakfast at school today!  Shoot, didn’t I iron his school clothes already?  Wasn’t there a shirt with a patch already on it?  I could swear I took those pants to dry cleaning.  Do I have any pants whatsoever that will not require ironing?  Who in the world is calling me at 7:45 in the morning?  “Hello?… Hey!…On my way to work.  Oh, yeah, I can stop and get the milk for you on my way to drop off Aidan.  No problem…Okay, bye! (gotdangit)”  CoCo, stop doing that!  Wake up, Aidan!!!  “But Maaaaa, I’m still tired.”  Child, GET UP!!  “Maaaa, do you have some eggs for me cause I can’t put my pants on without the eggs.”  Lord, have mercy.

At 8:20 we land in the car.  “Man, I coulda went ahead and woke up at 6:30.  I was just wrong for that. I need to learn how to respect 6:30, whenever I give it the dueces, it always gets me back”  Then I stopped and got some donuts (and that milk).  And I strolled into the job at 9:30.

Oh.  The moral of the story is:  If you’re gonna be late for work, bring breakfast.

How was your morning?

It’s almost Thanksgiving, and that’s my motto!  So, in early honor of my favorite holiday, I’ll share with you guys my fave recipe.  To give proper kudos, my sister in law the cook made these for Christmas year before last.  Tim loved them so much that I just had to make them myself.  He calls them my 1 Hour Green Beans, cause it takes that long to make them.  But yeah, GOOD.  Oh, if you don’t eat pork, you can skip to the end of the post, cause this has some swine all up and through it.  Sorry.

1 Hour Green Beans

1 Hour Green Beans

HERE is the recipe.  It’s a Paula Deen recipe and can also be found on The Food Network.  The above ones were made in my kitchen.  I didn’t use any of the Paula Deen seasoning, instead I use one can of  the chicken broth seasoned with garlic & one can regular (don’t use 2 seasoned chicken broths, it will be wayy salty).  I also just get a bag of the frozen cut green beans instead of using fresh ones. Oh, and I never use 12 potatoes.

Now, I’ve done my Thanksgiving duty and shared one of my fave finger lickin good recipes with you all.  Do you have any good ones?  How bout for banana pudding or chicken tettrazini?  I’ve been looking for those.  Now, let’s see what you’re working with — post us up a good recipe right down there in the comments.  What are YOU looking forward to chowing down on this turkey day?

Date Weekend!

Or not.

This weekend was all about QT with my honey.  The kiddie was gone with Granny and PawPaw and this weekend was about maxin and relaxin.

Saturday morning, I asked Tim if he would show me how to P.T. like the Navy does it, because I’m still trying to learn how to be a runner jogger.  So, early Saturday afternoon we made our way to the YMCA and got our physical fitness on.  I expected to be running to some kind of cadence and die, and Tim expected me to be a total complainer.  So, both of us were pleasantly surprised that 1) I handled up on the workout, and 2) Tim didn’t try to kill me.  My jogging skills are improving, people!  That was the first time that we’d ever worked out together, probably because of the above expectations, but  — dare I say — it was fun.  I think we might even do it again sometime.

Saturday afternoon, I managed to make Tim Tim was just dying to work in the yard.  I swear I don’t know why, but whenever he’s around with his yard stuff, he just can’t get enough of my yard.  That man is attracted to grass.  Here is our finished product:  phase one of the yard.  I need your opinion on something that I’m gonna ask later, so pay attention to the photo.

Phase One

Phase One

After all that Saturday work we were tired.  And, Tim is getting old so his back was hurting.  Where is the date part of date weekend, you ask?  Funny, Tim asked the same thing….  Even without the date part, we managed to have a lovely, stress-free time together.  And that’s what it’s all about, right? Riiiight.
Here’s the question.  Phase two of pimp my yard will consist of porch improvements, shutter paint, and window treatments.  What color should we paint the shutters? I am really NOT feeling red.  I’m thinking white.  What do you think?  And what did you do this weekend?

What Do You Expect?

Remember my post about the car bike encounter?  That happened at a place here in Jackson that’s a local establishment.  In the hood.  On “that” side of town.  When you go in, there’s always a line.  But you stand in it.  There’s always that lady on the cash register that’s slow and a tad bit rude.  There’s always the 10 minute wait after you place your order.

You never say anything, you just stand in the line, place your order so as not to offend the sensibilities of register lady (or anybody else behind the corner who just might roll their eyes at you or something), and wait on your food.  And your food is always off.the.chain.

Every city and town has this place.  The place where you go just because the food is good.  The customer service, not so much.  You know how to act when you go in there, and you act accordingly so you can get in and get out.  I’ve accepted this behavior when I go in there for so long, that I don’t even expect anything different.  If they were actually nice and cordial, I’d think something was wrong.

Is something wrong with that?

Impasse

–noun

1. a position or situation from which there is no escape; deadlock

That’s where we were. We didn’t square off and lock horns, we just kinda shut it down — each one of us without notifying the other.

I didn’t say “I’m mad at you”, “I expect this from you”, “So and so shouldn’t be this way.” I just expected him to know it. He didn’t say “Stop acting like that”, “Don’t talk to me like that”, “So and so shouldn’t be this way. He just expected me to know it. And this went on and on. And we still went on doing what we’ve always done…a weekend here, a weekend there….a phone call here, a phone call there…. But we still didn’t say it.

Then something happened, and we realized that we had a chance to be free. Nothing else need be said. Each one of us could walk away feeling justified in doing so.

Then an “I’m sorry”
And an “I love you”
And an “I don’t want to leave”
And a “Neither Do I….But I do want….”

Then a long conversation that was long overdue.
Then two people brainstorming solutions that will work for them both.

Breakthrough

- noun

an act or instance of removing or surpassing an obstruction or restriction; the overcoming of a stalemate:

I Need to Move

Not out of my house, just out of this place.

Those of you who just met me here may not know this, but I’m not stable.  Stability?  Don’t like it.  Nope.  Can’t use it.  I need to be moving around, finding something to do.

Now, I’ve arrived at the last unstable place that I want to be.  I know that I need to move.  This move to Jackson that I made three years ago was only supposed to be temporary.  I’d stay here, buy a house to later rent, work the job that would get me to the next level, and I’d be out.  I didn’t know out where, or how, or when, but I’m feeling the itch.  The one that says “Time to bite the bullet, P, which way will you go?”  I still don’t know.  But, there’s been a shocking turn of events…

That stability I didn’t like?  Now I need it.  I just know it’s not here, in this place.  So, the search for stability has begun, one goal at a time. My first goal?  Already locked in and ready to be accomplished.  So see?  I’m on my way!

I’ll be here for another minute, in this place.  I know that, it doesn’t bother me — anymore.  I tried to hurry up and get out of this place, but I’ve learned that slow and easy is the road that I should be traveling.  Slowly, easily, one day at a time, I’ll peacefully move from this place to the one that’s waiting for me.

I haven’t really been posting much, eh?  I don’t know why, but lately I’ve been feeling kinda reflective.  So this is your warning.  Get ready, I’m about to start being reflective, counting blessings, making plans, coming to some conclusions, maybe even some protected posts if you really want the low down.  I don’t know what brought this on, but it started about a month ago.  Normally, I shut it down and keep it moving, but not this time.  This time, Fab 14, you’re going on this journey with me.  Buckle up, enjoy the ride.

So, what do you guys think of the new blog outlook?  I love it!

I want to say thanks to Kaylyn, who gave me a new blog outlook after making a contribution to the NieNie fund.  If you have a blog and would like a new header on the low-low, check out Kaylyn at Headers for Nie Nie.  There are plenty of delightful designs over there, and you can even tell Ms. Kaylyn what you want and she’ll do a custom header for you — she’s that good! Plus, if you’re a total loser and you don’t even know how to put your new header up, she listens to you whine and then does it for you. :-) And the contribution is for a totally worthy cause.

I’m sure I’ve never mentioned the Nie Nie blog before, but NieNie is a blogger who was severely injured in a plane crash in August.  She and her husband have a long way to go towards recovery.  I’ve never met NieNie, but I read her blog often.  She tells the greatest stories about her family and kids.  And, her sister CJane does, too! If you’d like to help their family in the recovery efforts, what better way than to donate a lil cash and get a new header?

Anyway, thanks, Kaylyn.  I really appreciate it, and the banner is beautiful!
